AUSA Platform

We are all dreamers; it is part of of what makes us unique as a species, and what a component God instilled within us. This spirit of dreaming is what has propelled us from early civilizations to where we find ourselves today. And this dreaming spirit is what will carry us into the future - or will it? Is there something else needed?

Two years ago when I was asked to join AUSA as Business Manager, I was not completely aware of what I was opening the door to. I had been involved in countless of leadership positions in high school, but the opportunities for a committed involvement had not yet been found in college. I was privileged to work with an incredible team on AUSA that year, and my experience sparked a fire within me that continues to burn strong today.  Since that time, I have been privileged to serve in a number of roles including the Dean’s Advisory Council for the School of Business Administration, Chairman for the Student Academic Integrity council, and most predominately Financial Vice President for AUSA. These experiences have been extremely valuable in providing my opportunities to gain a deep understanding of AUSA as well as the knowledge needed to initiate change on campus and follow it to completion

As President, I will make myself available and present throughout campus to talk with you; about your dreams, about your problems, and simply to understand and appreciate everyone who steps foot on this campus. This is also the mindset I wish to instill in the rest of the team, creating a team that is approachable and connected to campus. Aside from the physical presence, other actionable steps include simple surveys to gauge how things are going, and where things can be improved. I believe there is always room for improvement, but understanding exactly where will allow timely and actionable feedback to ensure that AUSA is able to be relevant and have a meaningful impact across campus.

In the role of President, responsibilities include ensuring that plans and dreams are carried out. With many other team members ranging from Rec. Center Manager to Social Vice President, and these people with dreams who’s scale varies from grand to small. As students, it is sometimes challenging to balance between school, social life, and then work. That’s why I will regularly talk with the team outside of the planned meetings to see how things are going for them, and provide guidance for them if there is ever a rut to overcome. This ensures that all the ideas you have can be transformed into results.

We are all dreamers; we observe things everyday that could be better whether it be on a wide scale such as Internet failure or even things like that one part of the sidewalk that always has a puddle. We as students have no shortage of these opportunities to move from the actual to ideal. What is needed is an opportunity to transform these dreams in reality. As a body, AUSA stands to represent you as students, advocating on your behalf to ensure that your experience at Andrews University is not just good, but great. This is an area in which I am very passionate, and have been able to successfully initiate projects that help improve campus life for students. As President, I will continue my work on campus related projects as well as empower students to turn their dreams about campus into a reality.

My name is Cody Wales, and it would be my privilege to serve you as President of AUSA during the 2015-2016 school year. Let’s make your dreams happen.
